Food Bank
The Door has joined with several other churches
participating in the “Food Item of the Month” effort.
Looking at the statistics for November & December combined, here is a recap of our 2012 Holiday Season at the CV Food Bank: 120 Different Families Served (most received a turkey or a ham AND a gift box from GIANT as a holiday bonus), 430 Individuals Served and 30 New Families.
As you would imagine, the need for food has grown tremendously over the past few years. During the fiscal year (September 2011 – August 2012) volunteers served an average of 47 families per month, each household receiving a grocery cart full of food. They helped to feed an average of 159 individuals per month. There were 70 new families able to receive help. A total of 203 different local families needed assistance from the CVFB this year.
The mission of the Conestoga Valley Food Bank is “to share God’s love by providing nourishment on a short term basis to those in need and living within the Conestoga Valley School District.” The C.V.F.B. has been helping our neighbors in need for 21 years and is located at Forest Hills Mennonite Church in Leola.
An estimated $8,000.00 worth of food is given away each month at the Conestoga Valley Food Bank (CVFB). Donations of food and money are welcomed from many different sources – churches, businesses, school and community groups, families and individuals.
Thank you very much for caring and sharing your abundance.
